Laura Stock, the associate director of UC Berkeley’s Labor Occupational Health Program has been appointed by California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. to the California Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) Standards Board effective June 2012.
The Board, a seven-member body appointed by the Governor, is responsible for setting the standards that are then enforced by the Cal/OSHA program. Their mission is to promote, adopt, and maintain reasonable and enforceable standards that will ensure a safe and healthful workplace for California workers, according to the Department of Industrial Relations.
“The Standards Board plays a critical role in protecting California’s workforce. We are very pleased to have someone from COEH on the Board who can help interpret and apply the best available evidence to the standard-setting process,” said COEH Director John Balmes. “Laura is a great choice, as she has direct experience with so many different industries and the necessary diplomatic skills, as well.”
