Industrial Hygiene

An iron worker wearing protective gear The NIOSH-supported Occupational Hygiene Graduate Program is located on the Berkeley campus in the Environmental Health Sciences Division of the School of Public Health. The MS, MPH, and PhD degrees are offered. Areas of research emphasis include engineering aspects of occupational hygiene, air sampling and analysis, exposure assessment, relationships between exposure and response, and biological monitoring. Collaborative research projects are pursued with investigators in other departments on the Berkeley campus as well as elsewhere in COEH. MPH students spend the summer after their first year of courses working as interns in industry or government, under the supervision of a certified hygienist.
