The Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) organizes this annual symposia to highlight important occupational and environmental health and safety issues and to showcase research by Center faculty and students.

The 2012 Symposium features talks by John Howard (Keynote Speaker), Tomás J. Arágón, John Balmes, Paul English, Robyn Gershon, Robert Harrison, Thomas McKone, Gina Solomon, and Michael Wilson.

This symposium will explore the occupational and environmental issues related to man-made and natural disasters, examining recent case studies including the tsunami-induced Fukushima nuclear reactor failure, the post-Katrina flooding of New Orleans, the Gulf oil spill, the destruction of the World Trade Center, pandemic infectious diseases, and extreme heat events. The focus will be on lessons learned to better address future disasters in terms of protecting workers, communities and the environment.
