Silicosis is recognized as one of the most common occupational lung diseases worldwide. Exposure to silica dust also plays an even larger role in global health as a contributor to the Tuberculosis (TB) epidemic.

COEH Continuing Education will be hosting a course on Silica this April to explore the challenges in studying occupational exposures, the impact of respirable silica on health, mitigation strategies for drilling into concrete, and the efficacy of wet methods in low-income countries.   • Describe the risk of respiratory disease from silica exposure and the challenges in studying occupational exposures
  • Identify the occupational health hazards of drilling into concrete and workplace intervention strategies
  • Recognize the relationship between silica dust exposure and the Tuberculosis (TB) epidemic
  • Discuss the impact of reducing respirable silica exposures in small-scale mining and stone crushing mills in low-income countries through wet methods
