Protecting Global Supply Chain Workers in a Post-COVID World

About the webinar:

This webinar will explore current working conditions in global supply chains, including apparel and electronics, and identify the underlying causes of unsafe, unhealthy, and illegal conditions. It will highlight the impact of the COVID pandemic on global supply chain workers, and how corporate purchasing practices have made a bad situation much worse. Effective measures to improve working conditions will be explained and profiled.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Recognize the underlying causes of unsafe, unhealthy, and illegal working conditions in global supply chains

  • Summarize why corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs have failed to protect workers

  • Evaluate effective strategies for improving working conditions for global supply chain workers

Speaker: Garrett D. Brown, MPH, CIH

Garrett Brown, MPH, CIH, worked as a field compliance officer for Cal/OSHA for over 20 years, and spent his last three years at Cal/OSHA as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Cal/OSHA at Headquarters. Since 1993, Brown has been the volunteer Coordinator of the Maquiladora Health & Safety Support Network providing information, training and technical assistance pro bono to worker and community groups in Mexico, Central America, Indonesia, China, and Bangladesh.

If you're not able to attend the live presentation, no problem! We record most presentations and will host them on our website provided we have permission to do so. Presentation recordings are not eligible for Certificates of Completion.

ACCREDITATION

The Center for Occupational and Environmental Health designates this activity for a maximum of 1.0 Contact Hour. Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.
